US Cookie Policy

Last updated: 14 April 2026

This policy covers our US site. US privacy law uses an opt-out model for most cookies, rather than the opt-in consent model required in the UK and EU. You'll still see a banner the first time you visit, but it's there to let you opt out, not to block cookies from loading.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your browser. They're used to remember you between visits, keep you logged in, measure how the site performs, and — in some cases — build a profile for advertising. Some of what we describe below technically uses local storage or pixels rather than cookies, but the practical effect is the same.

Types of cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These make the site work. They handle session management, load balancing, CSRF protection, and remembering your cookie preferences. Without them the site breaks. You can't opt out of these — they're exempt under CCPA because they're needed to provide the service you asked for.

Performance

These measure how the site is used: which pages are popular, how people land on the site, where they drop off. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) via Google Tag Manager (GTM) for this. Data is aggregated and we don't use it to identify individuals.

Functional

These remember choices you've made — for example, preferred region or whether you've dismissed a banner.

Targeting and advertising

These let us measure the effectiveness of our marketing and show you relevant ads on other sites you visit. We use Google Ads conversion tracking. Under California law, use of these cookies may constitute “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — see our Do Not Sell or Share page for how to opt out.

Third-party cookies

The main third parties that set cookies through our site:

Each third party has its own privacy notice covering how they process the data they receive.

How to opt out

Your rights under CCPA

If you live in California, you have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information collected via cookies, plus other rights set out in our US Privacy Policy. Residents of other states with privacy laws (VA, CO, CT, UT, TX, OR, and others) have similar rights and can use the same routes.

Changes

We'll update this policy when the cookies or tools we use change. The date at the top always shows the latest revision.
