Pay by Bank Integration

Card-free payments by phone with Pay by Bank

Pay by Bank on the Paytia SecureFlow platform is an Open Banking payment taken on a live call. Your agent sends a secure link, the customer opens it and authorizes the payment in their own banking app, and the money moves straight from their account into yours. No card means no scheme fees, no chargebacks, and no PCI scope — because no card data is ever involved. Paytia handles the connections via FCA-regulated partners, and payments settle into the business account you already use.

  • No card data, so no PCI scope on the payment
  • Flat per-transaction fee instead of a percentage
  • Settlement in seconds over UK Faster Payments
  • No card-scheme chargeback route
  • Settles into the business account you already have
  • Agent falls back to card on the same call if needed

How Paytia works with Pay by Bank

The customer authenticates inside their own banking app with the same biometrics or PIN they use every day, under PSD2 strong customer authentication. No payment credentials cross our infrastructure or yours. Here's the call.

  1. 1

    Agent sends the link mid-call

At the point of payment, the agent sends a secure Pay by Bank link — the customer stays on the call throughout.

  2. 2

Customer authorizes in their banking app

They open the link and approve the payment inside their own bank's app, using the biometrics or PIN they already trust.

  3. 3

    Money moves account to account

The bank pushes the payment over Faster Payments — settlement in seconds, straight into your existing business account.

  4. 4

    Both sides get confirmation

The agent sees the payment confirmed and carries on with the call. If the customer's bank is unavailable, the agent falls back to card on the same call.

Why teams choose Pay by Bank with Paytia

No PCI scope

There's no card data anywhere in the flow, so the payment sits entirely outside your cardholder data environment — nothing to mask, record-scrub or audit.

Fees that stay flat

Bank-rail payments carry a flat per-transaction fee rather than interchange plus scheme plus gateway percentages — typically 60-80% cheaper than cards, and the gap widens as the amount grows.

Chargeback fraud ends here

Bank-rail payments don't carry the card-scheme chargeback route. Disputes come back to you directly — usually on the phone — which kills card-chargeback fraud.

Regulated all the way through

Open Banking is a framework the CMA required the biggest UK banks to build, supervised by the FCA, with PSD2 strong customer authentication on every payment. Paytia connects via FCA-regulated partners.

Dual-rail on the same call

The agent offers card or bank at the point of payment and the customer picks. Teams typically see the bank share climb over the first few months without changing the script.

Fast refunds

Refunds go back over the same bank rails and settle in seconds — no card-scheme refund window or multi-day clearing delay.

Pay by Bank + Paytia — common questions

What is Pay by Bank?+

An Open Banking payment taken on a phone call. Your agent sends a secure link, the customer authorizes it in their banking app, and the money moves straight from their account into yours — no card, no scheme fees, and no PCI scope because no card data is involved.

How do the fees compare to cards?+

Typically 60-80% cheaper. A card payment pays interchange plus scheme fees plus gateway fees — often 1.5% or more on debit. A bank payment on the same call is a flat per-transaction fee, so the saving grows with the transaction size.

Can customers still charge back a payment?+

No — bank-rail payments don't carry the card-scheme chargeback route. Disputes come to you directly, usually back on the phone. For most businesses that's a feature, though it's worth making sure your refund process is solid before moving volume across.

Do we need a new bank account or gateway?+

No. Payments settle into the same business account your card payments already land in. Paytia handles the Open Banking connections via FCA-regulated partners, so you don't need to become an authorized payment institution.

Is it secure?+

Arguably more secure than reading a card number down a phone. The customer authenticates inside their own banking app with the biometrics or PIN they use every day, under PSD2 strong customer authentication and FCA supervision. No payment credentials cross our infrastructure or yours.

What if the customer's bank is down during the call?+

It's rare — UK retail banks run 99.9%+ availability — but when it happens the agent simply falls back to card on the same call. The dual-rail setup means there's no scramble.
