Why card payments on Zoom calls are a problem — and how we fix it

Here's the situation we built this for. Your agent is on a Zoom call with a customer, everything's going well, and then it's time to take payment. Without Paytia, the customer reads their card number out loud. The agent types it in. The Zoom recording captures every digit. That's a serious problem — Zoom records by default, which means card data is now sitting in a recording that could be stored, shared, or accessed by anyone with access to that account.

We fix this by routing the payment away from the call entirely. When the agent clicks to start a payment, the customer gets a secure link in the meeting chat. They enter their card details on a secure keypad — the agent stays on the call and sees a progress indicator, but never sees or hears the card number. The digits go directly to Stripe. They don't pass through Paytia's systems, they don't touch your systems, and they don't appear anywhere in the Zoom recording.

The call carries on as normal. The agent sees payment confirmation on screen within seconds. The customer never had to read anything out, and there's no card data anywhere it shouldn't be. That's what PCI descoping actually looks like in practice.

What you can do from inside the Zoom meeting

  • Start a single or multi-party payment request from inside the Zoom meeting
  • Pick the meeting participant who's making the payment
  • Capture an account or reference number against the payment
  • Capture first name, last name, billing and shipping addresses
  • Track the payment progress in real time
  • See the payment result inside the Zoom screen

Key features

Zoom integration

Start a payment session directly from inside your Zoom video call. No need to switch platforms or send separate payment links.

DTMF masking

Our DTMF masking works with Zoom audio. When the customer enters card details by keypad, tones are replaced with flat audio.

Screen-sharing safe

The agent portal shows progress indicators but never displays card numbers. Safe to share your screen during the payment.

Stripe integration

Built on Stripe's payment infrastructure. Payments process inside the meeting — no redirect, no separate page.

Real-time status

Both agent and customer see live updates as card details are entered and the payment processes. Confirmation appears in seconds.

No plugin required

Works with standard Zoom — no plugins, extensions, or downloads needed for the customer. If they can join Zoom, they can pay.

Common questions

How does Paytia's Zoom payment integration work?

Paytia integrates directly with Zoom meetings via a free app from the Zoom Marketplace. Once installed, you can fire a payment request to any meeting participant. The customer gets a secure payment link and enters card details without ever reading them out loud.

Is Paytia's Zoom payment solution PCI DSS compliant?

Yes. Card data never passes through your systems. Paytia is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, so your scope drops dramatically while the highest US security standards stay intact.

How do I install the Paytia client for Zoom?

Search for 'Paytia' in the Zoom Marketplace or use the direct link on our site. Installation is straightforward — you connect your Stripe account and you're ready to take payments in your next meeting.

Can I use Paytia's Zoom payment solution with any Stripe account?

Yes. The integration works with any valid Stripe account. You connect Stripe during setup and that handles the payment processing.

Can I collect customer information alongside the payment?

Yes. Capture first name, last name, billing and shipping address alongside the payment for a complete transaction record — without any of it ending up in the Zoom recording.
