Controlling Card Brand and Card Type Acceptance with Paytia

Paytia provides administrators with the ability to control which card brands and types are accepted for telephone payments. This feature enhances security and aligns with business requirements by allowing precise control over the types of cards processed.

Card Brands vs. Card Types

  1. Card Brands: Refers to financial organizations linked to the card, such as Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
  2. Card Types: Refers to the banking category, such as debit or credit cards.

To access this feature, your account must have the Manage Card Rules license enabled.

Features of Manage Card Rules

1. Enable or Disable Card Brands

Administrators can choose to accept or reject transactions based on specific card brands. For instance, you may opt to accept Visa and Mastercard while rejecting American Express.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the Settings menu and select the Manage Card sub-menu.

Control which card brands & types you accept
  2. In the Card Brand tab:
    • Use the toggle sliders in the Action column to activate or deactivate specific card brands.
    • Deactivated brands will be rejected during payment processing.
  3. Customers using deactivated card brands will receive an automated message indicating the rejection.

2. Configure Card Type Rules

This feature allows you to:

  • Assign specific card types (credit only, debit only, or both) to predefined transaction categories.
  • Customize dropdown options in the Agent Capture Assist interface to guide staff during payment processing.

Steps:

  1. In the Card Type Settings tab:
    • Define a title for the dropdown field, e.g., "Payment For".
    • Create dropdown options for payment types, e.g., "Rent Payment" or "Services".
    • Map each dropdown option to a specific card type rule:
      • Credit Only
      • Debit Only
      • Credit and Debit
  2. Save the settings to apply the rules.

How It Works

When a customer provides their payment card, Paytia performs a BIN lookup to extract card details such as:

  • Card brand (e.g., Visa)
  • Card type (e.g., debit or credit)
  • Issuer country

Paytia then matches this information against the rules configured in your account and determines whether to accept or reject the card.

Agent Experience

In the Agent Capture Assist interface:

  • Agents will see a dropdown menu with predefined options, such as:
    • Rent Payment (restricted to debit cards)
    • Services (allows both credit and debit cards)
  • Once the agent selects the appropriate option, Paytia automatically applies the corresponding card processing rule.

Control which card brands & types you accept - step 4

Benefits of Card Management

  • Customizable Control: Tailor card acceptance rules to align with business policies.
  • Enhanced Security: Restrict unwanted card types to mitigate fraud.
  • Simplified Operations: Intuitive dropdown options streamline the payment process for staff.

By leveraging the Manage Card Rules feature, your business can ensure secure, efficient, and policy-compliant payment processing.
